obama speech boils down to one word, vote. this is from the "new york times." it says no fewer than a half dozen times president obama urged voters to go to the polls. each time he criticized mitt romney drawing boos from the crowd. he replied don't boo, vote. when the crowd chanted vote, vote, vote. president obama replied, all right, you guys are getting it. we will see the candidates one more time debate the issues. that's on monday night. c-span will of course bring that to you live. one more story focused on president obama. this one from the washington post. this one says he's struggling to match the intensity from his campaign. it says they're working hard the candidate is having a hard time closing the deal. and they reflect on how he did four years ago versus now. last night the candidates took a break from the intensity of the campaign trail to tell some jokes at the al smith dinner. we want to hear what role you think humor plays in giving you insight into a candidate for president. does it matter to you? caller: i think that the humor and it was enj

they're not going to walk in on election day and vote for barack obama, and that's what this race is gng to come down and that's where you can see a late surge in this campaign that historically as the numbers continue to look like 1980, ronald reagan wasn't the be all to end all candidate in 1980. he became that in '84. you saw that same collapse in his direction. and i think the potential for that to happen in this election is also there. host: ed goeas, mike bocian, democratic pollster here a the table, our lines are open, give us a call as we look at campaign 2012, 100 days before election day. next is a viewer from brooklyn, new york, oca is on the phone, our independent line, good morning, welcome to the program. oca. caller: good morning. look, the problem i really have with books on parties, it's not really about barack obama or mitt romney. we should concentrate on ask the people in congress who have no morals with their behavior and attitude of no compromise and moving the country forward. host: and in fact, congressional approval overall is in the single digits. the high s

i don't think the election will be ultimately decided on this comment. this election looks to me, if you look at polls, "new york times", they had a fascinating poll about the level to which the economy drives obama down, 35 percent approve of his handling of the economy, 55 percent disapprove and 51 percent say a president can do a lot about the state of the economy. that's troubling if you're barack obama because in truth if you talk to economists they say the president gets too much credit when the economy is good, and i would say mitt romney has not run a perfect campaign but he seems to be credible alternative if that's what people are looking to. host: and donna saying yeah, i saw that ad coming. michael on the phone from colorado springs, member of the green party. caller: good morning and thank you for having me on this morning. my only question is i keep hearing on cspan, and i watch it almost every morning for the past year is everybody keeps talking about mitt romney or barack obama being the next president. how come we never hear about the th
